Women’s Health

MiDoctor is proud to offer women’s health services as a part of our comprehensive health services. An important part of women’s health is to attend regular gynecological exams, beginning at age 21, or within three years of becoming sexually active. Preventive care includes:

  • Discussion of health topics based on your age and risk factors
  • Exams and screening tests
  • Immunizations

At MiDoctor Urgent care, we are able to take care of all of your GYN needs.

Who Needs an Annual Exam?

We recommend an annual well-woman exam for women of all ages to help maintain your ongoing health through prevention and early detection of problems.

What is Done During an Annual Exam?

  • Review of your medical history
  • Make sure you are up to date with health screenings and vaccinations
  • Breast and Pelvic exam
  • STD Testing
  • Contraceptive counseling
  • General wellness check

What is a Pap Smear? How Often Do I Need One?

A pap smear is a screening test for cervical cancer. During a pelvic exam, a small brush is used to take a sample of cells from your cervix. The sample is sent to the laboratory and is examined for precancerous cells.

  • Women aged 21-65: Routine pap smears every 3 years. For women over 30, HPV testing is recommended with a pap smear.
  • If there is a history of abnormal pap smears, a pap smear is recommended to be performed yearly

What about the Gardasil HPV Vaccine?

The Gardasil shot is a 3 dose vaccine series to help protect the health of our cervical cells. It is usually given at age 11 or 12 at the pediatrician’s office. The vaccine is most effective if administered before people become sexually active.

What if I Missed a Dose of the Vaccine When I was Younger?

  • It is recommended to receive all 3 doses; regardless of how much time has passed

What Ages are Eligible?

  • The original Gardasil vaccine was approved in 2006 for preteens and young adults up to age 26
  • In 2018, the FDA approved an updated Gardasil vaccine for women up to age 45

What Other Women’s Health Services do you Offer?

We see patients for a variety of reasons, outside of the annual exam.

  • Contraceptive counseling
  • Painful intercourse
  • Vaginal infections
  • STI Screening
  • Pregnancy testing
  • Abnormal periods
  • Pelvic or abdominal pain
