PrEP/PEP

Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP)

Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (or PrEP) is a medicine taken to prevent getting HIV. PrEP is highly effective for preventing HIV when taken as prescribed.

  • PrEP reduces the risk of getting HIV from sex by about 99%.
  • PrEP reduces the risk of getting HIV from injection drug use by at least 74%

PrEP only protects against HIV, meaning condom use is still vital for protection against STDs.

Injectable PrEP

MiDoctor Health is excited to share the latest developments in HIV prevention, with the recent FDA approval of Apretude for use in at-risk adults and adolescents as pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP).

Apretude is the first ever long-acting injectable option for prevention of HIV. Apretude is an injection given by your healthcare provider every other month and does not require any daily orals. This injectable option is particularly beneficial for someone who is at high risk for contracting HIV such as men who have sex with men,  transwomen who have sex with cisgender men, and who have trouble with adherence to daily oral pills.

Post-Exposure Prophylaxis (PEP)

Post-Exposure Prophylaxis (or PEP) is a medicine taken to prevent getting HIV after exposure or possible exposure to HIV. This is a combination of two pills for treatment. A medical consultation will be done to go over your risks and the best treatment option.

For both PrEP and PEP we will draw the necessary labs to make sure you are healthy for this medication.
