Who Is Most At-Risk?

As the pandemic evolve, different groups of people have been considering the most at-risk or vulnerable given the most prevalent variant and active restrictions. At this time, the populations that are most at-risk are:

Persons With Underlying Medical Conditions – various chronic illnesses, diseases, and a compromised immune system put you at increase risk of adverse symptoms.

Pregnant Women – pregnancy places women in a vulnerable state, and can render them immunocompromised

Persons in Correctional Facilities – this includes both inmates as well as correctional and detention facilities staff.

Just becaus you don’t fall into one of the catagories above doesnt mean you aren’t at risk. Healthy individuals still face some risk of contracting COVID-19; although your symptoms are more likely to be moderate.

Variants Remain A Real Threat

At this stage in the pademic, there are multiple variants that have arisen from various regions in the world. Variants are the result of mutations that have occurred, changing the virus and some of its key elements. These changes enable the virus to bypass your immune system and can result in multiple infections.

According to data from the CDC, at this point in time the Omicron variant remains the dominant strain, being reported in as many as 65% of cases. However, there are two variants of concern that are slowly becoming more prevalent; the BA.2 and BA.5 variants accounting for 27% and 10% respectively.

How To Protect Yourself From COVID-19

Vaccination remains the most effective way to protect yourself from the virus and its variants. Having atleast two doses greatly improves your bodys ability to resist the virus, or reduce the severity of your symptoms if you contract COVID-19.

The team at MiDoctor offers both Pfizer and Moderna vaccines, and has the capacity to provide booster doses as well. If you are worried that you may have come in close contact with someone who has COVID-19, and wish to be tested, MiDoctor also provides rapid antigen and PCR testing.
